Maintenance

Non slip underlay
We advise you to use a so called non slip underlay  under your hand knotted rug. Above all, this is for your own safety. There can be dangerous situations when a rug is placed on a hard slippery floor. Furthermore the lifespan of your rug will significantly increase when using a non slip underlay, since there will be no sliding of the rug.
We supply non slip under lays both for use on hard floors and for carpeted floors. The anti slip is being placed under the full measurement of the rug, unattached.

Stains
Regular maintenance will keep your rug into good shape. You can vacuum clean your carpet directly after it is delivered. Old and antique hand-knotted rugs can have wearing out spots or can be ready for new fringes. Every wool vessel has a natural filmy layer of fat. This makes the wool repulsive. If you have a stain this layer will give you some time to take it off. To act immediately is still important. Never use detergents or chemicals. They will dissolve this natural fat layer. The stain that lasts after using chemicals is very difficult to get clean after it dried.
Dirt from the street has to be removed immediately. Regular dust is hard to see but is always there.

So to vacuum clean your carpet is from the ad most importance to keep your rug into good shape.

Incidentally there are piles or threads coming out of the carpet. These wires are not cut of at the right size while making the rug. They will come up after use (this will definitely occur with the Moroccan Rugs). You can solve this problem by vacuum cleaning. After a while this becoming fluffy will disappear.

Water solvable stains

First try to remove the spilled liquid with a scraper or a spoon as much as possible.
When there is chewing gum on your carpet try to freeze it with ice cubes. This will make it easier to remove it. You have to dab the liquid with a white cotton cloth or colourless paper
tissue. Never rub it in!  You can damage the piles so please only dab it!
Always try to work from the outside in. This will prevent the spot from getting bigger.
We recommend the use of carbonated soda. The carbonic acid will remove the dirt from the carpet. Sprinkle the water on the spot and dab it carefully. Make it dry with the tissue or cotton cloth. Sometimes you have to repeat this several times but remember never to rub it in! In stat off carbonated soda you can use hand-warm water with a bit of white vinegar (made for cleaning purposes).
The above mentioned method is also useful for silk rugs. Extra caution is necessary!

After getting your carpet wet it is essential for the back of the carpet to get time
to dry. Probably you have to turn it around.
