Care & Fair - An initiative against child labour
| Almost fifteen years ago some European carpet traders founded the association Care & Fair – Carpet Trade Against Child Labour, to show responsibility. Care & Fair fights against illegal child labour in the manufacturing sector of hand knotted carpets. By setting up schools and medical clinics, the children in the carpet centres of India, Pakistan and Nepal are given better life expectations. A buying boycott or sanctions does not show favourable results in the struggle against child labour. It could cause even more misery amongst the families and especially amongst the children. What they really need is education. Education gives the children the chance for a life without exploitation. Care & Fair builds and maintains schools, play grounds, apprenticeships and hospitals for basic medical treatment in the carpet centres of India, Pakistan and Nepal. Up to now, more than 1.5 million Euros have been donated for this private development aid.
